Do you have a cat lover in your midst? I sure do. It was no surprise when the theme of a cat party came up in the conversation. She was obsessed with Beanie Boos at the time, so there had to be some incorporating of Beanie Boo cats, of course.
Here are some ideas you can use if you ever want to put on a cat party:
1.Cat cupcakes and cake.
These little guys were really easy to make and were a big hit. The kids loved having their own kittens to eat. For the body I used a regular cupcake pan, and the heads were made from a mini cupcake pan. Add some icing and a (more or less) fluffy looking icing. The tails were pretzel sticks, the faces were made from M&Ms, and the ears were pieces of Starbursts. Boom. Done.
The cat cake was also really easy to put together. The body was made using one of those fantastic glass measuring bowls that can go in the oven. I used a regular cupcake for the head, and half of the mini cupcakes for each foot. The tail was just icing on the plate. Same idea for the face and ears as the kittens.
2. Beanie Boo Piñata.
What do you get with two balloons and some paper towel tubes? This guy! It is a little tedious at first with getting the two balloons to stay where you want them while trying to papier mâché, but do not be discouraged. I like to put a piece of tape between them to help it along. Once you get a few strips of the newspaper on there is becomes a lot easier. I used clumps of papier mâché for the ears and muzzle, and toilet paper tubes cut down for the legs. Add some acrylic paint for the design element, and finish it off with some tissue paper for the tail.
3. Activities/Games.
For any party with a piñata, why not give the kids a little project at the beginning? This is especially great to start with as kids begin to arrive. I gave them each a brown paper bag, brought out colouring materials and stickers, and the rest was up to them. Now they have something for the goodies from the piñata.
We were very fortunate to have some amazing weather in November, so we could do the party outside.
Pin the tail on the Beanie Boo cat. Any "pin the ______" games are great because you can adapt them for any theme. If it's an animal, pin the tail. Superheroes? Pin a mask on. Cars? Pin on a license plate. Oh the possibilities.
* An obstacle course (which is a great way to burn off some energy and have fun).
* Hide the cat (this was an idea from my daughter). She brought out some of her stuffed cats. 2 kids hid the cats and the rest had to find them.
* Treasure hunt. I put pictures of cats around the yard and the kids had to find them. Each picture had an envelope attached that had a specific letter (one for each kid). When they found a picture they would take the letter that was in the envelopes. The letters spelled out the location of the cake/cupcakes.
